A primavera
finalmente chegou a Grasse. A Capital Mundial do Perfume começa a desabrochar

ENGLISH VERSION:
The most
anticipated season has finally arrived in Grasse: Spring. The Perfume Capital
of the World begins to bloom with its flowers. The
shops, cafes and restaurants of the "old village" are all open,
inviting all to enter. Tourists
are seen in increasing numbers, clicking their cameras in order to capture
every detail of this old city. However, Grasse produces somewhat
mixed feelings. Compared
to neighboring cities or nearby villages, it transmits a downfall feeling. It misses
some care by the city to make it cleaner and more beautiful, because of its
historical and current importance to the fragrance industry. But
at the same time it can be magic, and live in this city is definitely a
privilege.
All perfumers, aspiring perfumers or just admirers of the art should visit Grasse. For it is here that the essence of the fragrance is (literally). Come in spring or summer and smell the city like Jean-Baptiste Grenouille once did. The possibility of being in the middle of everything involving perfume is irreplaceable.
Since I came to study perfume in Grasse, I have had unique opportunities that fully complement the exhaustive journey to know and memorize over than 300 raw materials. Getting to know big perfumers such as Jean-Claude Elena, Jacques Cavallier, Aurelien Guichard, Max Gavarry among others. Important events happen every month sponsored by the International Museum of Perfume. Knowing the inside industry and work ("summer internship") for fragrance companies of the region. Visit the famous fields of lavender, roses and jasmine (although we did not visit, because the seasons have not arrived yet). Once I visit them, I will write about the experience and post multiple photos, because the olfactory and visual journey must be something surreal! The month of May is just around the corner and with it comes the roses of May and Expo Rose in Grasse.
For example, yesterday at the annual "Journée du Parfum" sponsored by the Rotary of Grasse, I discovered that the creative laboratory of the luxury brand LVMH will soon be established in Grasse and Jacques Cavallier being "in-house nose" will soon launch the first fragrance of the brand. Along with the brand Hermes, who knows, maybe Grasse in the near future could become a hub of perfume creation of luxury brands?
Congratulations to the city that despite of its “downfall” feeling that I sometimes feel sorry about, and the changes that are not always welcome, still fights to keep its title as the world capital of perfume live and ongoing. I fully support you!
